Because their spider-senses hum on the same frequency, they anticipate each other without a word — Peter feints, Miles is already swinging in to cover him. Add Miles's venom blast and camouflage to Peter's veteran experience and you get a partnership that reads every rooftop the same way. Mentor turned equal, they trade jokes mid-swing and finish each other's fights.
The two Spider-Men come from different universes. Miles Morales debuted in the Ultimate universe (Ultimate Fallout #4, August 2011) after that reality's Peter Parker was killed. The mainstream (Earth-616) Peter Parker first meets Miles in the crossover miniseries Spider-Men #1-5 (2012, Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli): a malfunctioning Mysterio device opens a dimensional rift that pulls the 616 Peter into the Ultimate universe, where he encounters the new teenage Spider-Man. Their first face-to-face is played for shock -- a living, adult Peter meeting the kid who took up the mantle after 'his' death -- and Peter becomes a mentor figure to Miles before returning home. It remains the defining origin of their relationship.
Since Secret Wars (2015-2016) folded Miles into Earth-616, he and Peter have coexisted as the city's two Spider-Men -- Peter the veteran, Miles the younger heir who no longer carries the weight of replacing a dead Peter. They headline separate ongoings (Peter in Amazing Spider-Man, Miles in his own Miles Morales: Spider-Man, relaunched under Cody Ziglar in 2022) but regularly cross paths in Spider-Family stories and line-wide events such as Spider-Geddon, King in Black, and Spider-Man: Gang War (2023-2024). The relationship is settled and warm: mutual respect between mentor and protege rather than rivalry, with each holding down his own corner of New York while backing the other in crises. Miles has also become a marquee multimedia character (the Spider-Verse films), reinforcing his standing alongside Peter as a co-lead of the Spider-Man mythos.
A Brooklyn kid bitten by a genetically-altered spider, Miles took up the Spider-Man mantle after his own universe's Peter Parker died — stepping into a legacy he never asked for and making it his own. He later crossed over into the main Marvel Universe, where he stands shoulder to shoulder with the original Spider-Man.
He carries the full classic spider-set — wall-crawling, super strength, agility and spider-sense — plus two signatures that are all his own: a bio-electric venom blast that stuns enemies on contact, and near-invisible camouflage. He runs with the Champions and the Avengers, a next-generation hero writing his own chapter of the Spider-Man story.
